Help Restore the Gym Floor of the Nasson Community Center

The Nasson Community Center is restoring the gym floor, and they need our help!

The Gym (aka Memorial Student Activity Center - MSAC) was constructed in 1958 and served the Nasson College community until Nasson closed in 1983. It then sat empty for almost 20 years until 2002, when four Nasson Alumni formed the Nasson Community Center, saving the gym and Little Theatre from the wrecking ball. The roof of the gym was renovated and a small portion of the gym floor which had water damage was replaced.

However, most of the original maple boards were deemed serviceable and the floor was only refinished with new varnish, game lines and the Nasson College Seal painted at center court.

Now, 61 years later, the floor has finally begun to fail. There are many soft spots (bouncing basketballs and pickleballs go dead on these locations and don’t spring back) and the old maple boards are showing their age. The Community Center Executive Director and its Board of Directors have determined that now is the time to raise money to have the maple surface boards replaced, the subfloor repaired as needed and new lines painted.

The Community Center (a sister organization of the Alumni Association and one of our 4 missions), and the Alumni Association, both of which are 501c3 nonprofit organizations, have agreed to jointly raise the money needed for the project.

The Community Center is applying for grants and getting support from the townspeople of Springvale/Sanford, and the Alumni Association has created this Gym Floor Campaign for Alumni donations.

We have been guaranteed our college seal at center court and the naming of both endcaps. Having the gym floor restored with the help of alumni donations will keep our alma mater’s name alive in Springvale/Sanford for the foreseeable future. The Community Center plans to have the project completed and the gym open for Homecoming, October 5, 2019.

If you wish to pay with a check, print the Gym Floor Donation Form. Please make it payable to Nasson College Alumni Association, and WRITE IN THE MEMO LINE: GYM FLOOR, which will ensure this donation is kept separate from our regular Community Center donation options.
