COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES FOR 2008
The
intent of the Nasson College Alumni
Association is to provide educational scholarships with
a preference to descendants of Nasson College alumni, faculty, staff
or members of the Nasson family. Students not related to descendants
of the Nasson family are also eligible to apply. Each year the Board
of Directors of the Alumni Association will determine the
number and dollar amount of the scholarship(s) based on availability
of funds.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants may be either graduating high school seniors or
college students pursuing an additional year of undergraduate study.
Previous recipients are eligible to apply so long as the necessary material
is submitted, which includes a statement outlining academic accomplishments
and involvement in the college and/or community activities. In addition,
the most recent official transcript of grades must be submitted.
In granting the award, the Scholarship Selection Committee
will consider academic achievements, personal traits, involvement in
extra-curricular and community activities, leadership roles, recommendations,
and personal goals and objectives. Selection is not based on financial
need.
DEADLINE
Application forms will be available FEBRUARY 1. Completed applications
must be postmarked no later than APRIL 15.
PRESENTATION
- For high school seniors, the award will be paid directly to the institution
upon presentation of evidence of successful completion of the first
semester in an accredited institution of higher education.
- For post-secondary students, the award will be paid to the institution
upon presentation of evidence of enrollment in the third or higher semester
of an accredited institution of higher education.
NOTIFICATION
All applicants will be notified of the selection results in writing
by JUNE 9, 2008. Please note that the recipient must
acknowledge receipt of this notification by JUNE 23, 2008
or the scholarship will be forfeited.

INSTRUCTIONS 2008
Your scholarship application package must be completed, arranged,
and numbered in the order described below.
1. Scholarship Cover Sheet
2. Prepare a statement of 200 to 300 words, double spaced, setting forth
your career objectives and your aspirations for the future. Specify
how your college major or plans relate to your future professional goals.
3. List and briefly describe significant extra-curricular activities
including membership in organizations, leadership roles, community service,
employment, and other relevant information.
4. List and briefly describe scholastic competitions and awards.
5. Submit signed letters of recommendation from 3 people (not
relatives): Letters should include personal qualities, educational characteristics,
and community service.
6. Graduating high school seniors must submit an official transcript
of all grades up to the present, which should include GPA, position
in class and SAT scores. Post-secondary students must submit an official
transcript of previous semester(s) grades with GPA, as well as an official
high school transcript, which should include GPA, position in class
and SAT scores.
7. COMPLETED
SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGE MUST BE MAILED TO:

It must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2008.
Attach additional sheets of 8 1⁄2 x 11-inch paper (not to exceed
two pages) as necessary.
All requested information MUST be provided. (See items 1 through 7 above).
The Nasson College Alumni Association assumes no responsibility for
incomplete or late applications. Incomplete applications will be
disqualified. Required application materials and unsolicited materials
will not be returned.
TIPS FOR COMPLETING THE APPLICATION
• Complete all the information requested and follow directions
as listed above. Applications will be disqualified if these instructions
are not followed.
• Typewritten/word processed applications and statements are required.
The COVER SHEET may be typewritten/word processed or hand printed in
legible form.
• Strive for concise and accurate replies.
• Proofread all your documents carefully. Spelling and grammar
count!
• Make a copy of your completed documents for your records.
• Use your permanent home mailing address.
An announcement will be made in the Lion
Speaks (The Nasson newsletter) and on the web site
(www.nasson.org). News Releases will
be sent to newspapers throughout the state of Maine and in the area
of the recipient’s residence. If it is possible and if the recipient
is a high school senior, a presentation will be made at the recipient’s
high school awards program or graduation ceremonies.
